more

more [-dlfpcsu] [-num] [+/pattern] [+linenum] [file ...]

more is a filter for paging through text one screenful at a time.

More is a pretty primitive utility for displaying a file on the screen. Just hit space for the next screen and enter for the next line. It's nemesis, less, provides more control over movement within the file. Still, using more is a force of habit for many people.

Examples

Display the contents of a file, screen by screen

more /var/log/messages

Contrary to popular belief, you can go backwards through a file using more, just press CTRL+B. Having said that, using the less utility is more intuitive for many people as you can use the cursor keys and PageUP/PageDown, etc.
